That's involuntary manslaughter which carries a nice little prison sentence. I feel for both the cyclists family as well as the young driver. If cell phone usgae in motor vehicles cannot be banned altogether it should certainly become part of the graduated licensing program.

I would like to see a campaign of reminding those we see talking on phones while driving that it is dangerous. I was thinking of writing a leaflet to give to folks in cars. Does anyone know where to get stats about how dangerous it is?

Gwen, if you re going to confront drivers who think a phone call is more important than his/her own life and/or car and/or pedestrians' life and/or cyclists' life, you can't expect them to stop for you to hand them an annoying (in their view) leaflet.

I've been considering using cans of Silly String(tm) for such purposes.
